A 16-year-old boy has been indicted as an adult on charges of murdering two British men in Sarasota, Florida, police said Wednesday.

Shawn A. Tyson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in last month’s shooting deaths of James M. Cooper, 25, and James Thomas Kouzaris, 24, both of England, Sarasota Police Chief Mikel T. Hollaway said in a written statement.

Tyson will be tried as an adult and, if convicted of first-degree murder, could receive life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, Hollaway said.

The neighborhood where the British men were found is a housing project in north Sarasota called Newtown, police said.

The teen suspect lives near the crime scene, a police report said, and he had been arrested earlier in April on a charge of aggravated assault with a handgun.

Police said the murders were an isolated incident at the complex, where the housing authority has been working to address problems.

The two men were believed to be friends who recently graduated from college and were in Sarasota to celebrate.

iWonder what evidence they have besides just living near the scene and an older charge not (conviction) of aggravation assault with a gun charge have to do with him getting arrested ? o i c lmao he confessed why didnt they just say so… damnit made me look stupid.

Coming from a young male it seems this brother got over his head real quick in life but what is the real problem these tragedies happen is the question is it his society to leave him at the door step and not let him in. a lot of people complain but don’t never take no actions. how can we ever be a factor if we never been a actor… Give this generation some opportunities quick or you will just be reading stories like this in the  news every night.

On a recent Sunday morning just before dawn, two carloads of white teenagers drove to Jackson, Mississippi, on what the county district attorney says was a mission of hate: to find and hurt a black person.

In a parking lot on the western side of town they found their victim.

James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old auto plant worker, was standing in a parking lot, near his car. The teens allegedly beat Anderson repeatedly, yelled racial epithets, including “White Power!” according to witnesses.

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says a group of the teens then climbed into their large Ford F250 green pickup truck, floored the gas, and drove the truck right over Anderson, killing him instantly.

Mississippi officials say it was a racially motivated murder. What the gang of teens did not know was that a surveillance camera was focused on the parking lot that night, and many of the events, including the actual murder of Anderson, were captured live on videotape.

CNN has exclusively obtained that surveillance tape. The group of teens that night was led by 18-year-old Deryl Dedmon, Jr., of Brandon, Mississippi, according to police and officials.

Deryl Dedmon, Jr., right, could face two life sentences in connection with the killing. John Aaron Rice, left, has been charged with simple assault.
Deryl Dedmon, Jr., right, could face two life sentences in connection with the killing. John Aaron Rice, left, has been charged with simple assault. They all should hang !

“This was a crime of hate. Dedmon murdered this man because he was black,” said Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith. “The evidence will show that.”

Asked if there could be any doubt whether the intent was to actually hurt and kill a black person, Smith responded: “No doubt about it. They were going out to look for a black victim to assault, and in this case, even kill.”

Dedmon led and instigated the attack from early in the evening, he took part in the beating of Anderson, and Dedmon was also the actual driver of the Ford 250 truck that would serve as the murder weapon, according to officials.

As the teens were partying and drinking miles away from Jackson that night, in largely white Rankin County, Dedmon told friends they should leave, saying “let’s go fuck with some niggers,” according to law enforcement officials.

Then, the gang of teens climbed into Dedmon’s green truck and a white SUV Cherokee, and drove 16 miles down Interstate 20, to the western edge of Jackson, a predominantly black area.

The teens would have seen Anderson immediately as they exited the highway, as the parking lot where he was standing is just beside the exit ramp.

“This is the first business that you get to coming off the highway and so that was the first person that was out here and vulnerable,” said district attorney Smith.

On the videotape, obtained and reviewed by CNN, the group of teens is seen pulling into the parking lot, and stopping where Anderson is standing, though he is just off camera and not visible.

The teens can then be seen going back and forth between their cars and Anderson. Witnesses told law enforcement officials this is when the repeated beatings of Anderson took place.

Dedmon pummeled Anderson repeatedly as he crumpled to the street, according to officials, though this is not visible in the videotape. Finally, after the beating some of the teens left and some got into the green truck.

At this moment on the video, Anderson becomes visible, as he staggered into view and walked towards the headlights of the truck. The truck suddenly surges ahead, running over Anderson, then continuing at high speed away from the scene.

Shortly after he allegedly drove the truck over Anderson, Dedmon allegedly boasted and laughed about the killing, according to testimony given by some of the teens to detectives.

“I ran that nigger over,” Dedmon allegedly said in a phone conversation to the teens in the other car.

He repeated the racial language in subsequent conversations, according to the law enforcement officials.

“He was not remorseful he was laughing, laughing about the killing,” said district attorney Smith.

Later that morning, James Craig Anderson’s family learned their 49-year-old brother and son died in a hit and run. Only later, when witness statements were taken did they learn the real horror.

“It appears there is no doubt that this was a racially motivated killing,” said Winston Thompson, the attorney representing Anderson’s family. “The family is still in shock still in disbelief.”

Smith and officials in the Hinds County District Attorney’s office say they plan to indict Dedmon for murder and a hate crime.

Deryl Dedmon is thin, weighing a mere 130 pounds, and short — at 5 feet; he has straggly blond hair and piercing blue eyes.

The teen, just 18 years old, has been charged with murder and now faces a possible double life sentence. Calls to Deryl Dedmon’s attorney have gone unanswered.

During a bond hearing his attorney told the court he saw nothing to back up the “racial allegations.”

At Dedmon’s home, a girl who answered the door pretended not to know him though the pick-up truck he allegedly used as a murder weapon sticks out of the family’s garage.

Police say they returned it after the vehicle was processed. A second teen, 18-year-old John Aaron Rice, has been charged with simple assault, for his part in the beating his attorney also did not return calls.

Neither teen has entered a plea.

The other teens in the group have not been charged.

And James Craig Anderson’s family has decided to remain silent for now, trying to come to grips with a crime they thought was in Mississippi’s past: the murder of a man just because he was black.

Women among Apia riot arrests

RIOTS: Family members of some of the detained youngsters at Apia Central Police station.

Six women are among 30 people arrested in connection to the violent riots at Vaisigano Bridge during the weekend.
Assistant Police Commissioner, Le’aupepe Fatu Pula confirmed the arrests during a press conference at the Apia Police Station, yesterday.

Le’aupepe said the riots were sparked by a fight between the youth of Apia and Matautu that erupted after the nightclubs closed on Friday night.

“It worsened on Saturday morning and it continued well into Sunday morning,” said Le’aupepe.
The Police investigation has also found that mothers were involved. Some of them were intoxicated.

“What’s shocking is that from what we’ve found out so far, the violence was instigated by adults,” the Assistant Commissioner says.
“They literally pushed the youth to join in the riot, which then resulted in the situation getting out of hand.”

The involvement of mothers is deeply distressing.
“Mothers should’ve been home at that time to tend to their children,” sayid Le’aupepe.

“They should be gathering their families for evening prayers and not encouraging them to join the violence.”
Twenty of 30 people arrested will appear in the District Court next Monday, 19 July 2011. They will face charges of being armed with a dangerous weapon and property damage.

On Monday, the traditional leaders of Matautu and Apia – Toomalatai and Seumanutafa – and their delegations met with the Minister of Police Sala Fata Pinati and Police Commissioner Lilomaiava Fou Taioalo to discuss the brawl.

The fight engulfed the eastern end of Beach Road – along Vaisigano Bridge – Friday and Saturday night.
Apia orator Tuiletufuga Siaosi Tuiletufuga – who spoke for both villages – said the youths involved do not belong to their respective villages.

“As far as we know, they are from other v

illages who have settled in our area. And we (Apia and Matautu) have decided that all those involved will be sent back to where they came from.

“We also want to assure the Police that we will not interfere with their work. Anybody that was involved in the fight, lock them up.
“We are ashamed of what has happened. Matautu and Apia are one village.

We assure the country that we will not stand idly by but will do our part as village leaders.”
“I’d like to assure government that this will never ever happen again.”

The two villages requested government to install streetlights along their inner roads, as according to Tuiletufuga, “these bad elements tend to congregate in the cloak of darkness.”

Minister Sala Pinati assured that Electric Power Corporation management will be directed to install the street lights right away.
EPC workmen will be there in your villages working towards that end before the end of the day.”

The meeting was called by Minister Sala at his office to seek a remedy to continuing violence that has, according to Tuiletufuga “tainted the good name of our villages”.
Sala pointed out that government’s concern was with the destruction of private and public property and the poor image it has given the country as much of the fighting happened in front of Aggie Grey’s Hotel.

Over 30 people – mainly youths but also including women – were arrested by Police Saturday night and a sting raid – involving over 70 officers – early Sunday morning at Matautu.

Several officers suffered minor injuries during the street fracas Saturday night.
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Maliegaoi said government is seriously considering readopting corporal punishment to discipline offending juveniles.

“It was administered by the Police during the colonial days and it worked. Perhaps we should go back to it.
“But the big question being, where were the parents in all this? Perhaps this is the result of going off to bingo every night with no one supervising their kids.

“Church leaders in these villages also have to do their part in improving spiritual guidance for these young ones.”
The Prime Minister thanked the Police and Fire Services’ quick response Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
The Police is reviewing its riot response and looking at investing in riot gear and training.

Accused of cutting off husband's penis
“A woman is under arrest after police say she drugged her husband, cut off his penis and threw it into the garbage disposal. Garden Grove police were sent to the home in the 14000 block of Flower Street around 9 p.m. Monday night after a woman called 911 for a medical emergency, according to Lt. Jeff Nightengale. When officers arrived, they found a man bleeding from the crotch area. The woman, identified as Catherine Kieu Becker, 48, the victim’s wife, had put an unknown type of poison and/or drug into her husband’s food to make him sleepy, according to Nightengale. She then tied him to the bed. When he woke up, she cut off his penis with a knife, investigators said. She then tossed the penis in the garbage disposal and turned it on.”
